Most kids grow up staring at fine art on their dining room walls. I grew up staring at a picture of John Lennon, where his eyes followed you no matter where you sat at the table. Most people’s parents take them to the zoo when they are 8 years old. Mine took me to a Garth Brooks concert where I was surrounded in bikers in leather jackets and he swung out into the crowd on a rope in the middle of Madison Square Garden. So I guess what I’m trying to say is in my family discovering new music and falling head over heels in love with it, is kind of what we do.
A great thing about NYC is there is live music everywhere and I mean “August Rush” everywhere. My love of music continues to grow, and find myself emailing and texting these new artists to my siblings – being like “omg you have to hear this!” Yes, that seriously is what I say. So I’m introducing this new part of my blog, where every Monday I share the artists that I’ve recently been obsessing over. Enjoy!
Gaby Moreno – Gaby’s soulful vocals are insanely captivating and reminiscent of the 1920′s. Gaby is originally from Guatemala and her recent album “llustrated Songs” includes songs in both Spanish and English. (Twitter – @gaby_moreno)
Punch Brothers – After Nickel Creek disbanded in 2007, mandolin virtuoso Chris Thile assembled this all-star quintet. Their new album “Whose feeling young now” was just released and you can download a free song on their Facebook page. (Twitter – @punchbrothers)

Love it? Hate it? Please share what you think. I would also love to hear what music you are listening to right now. Thanks!
