Music Monday: Delta Rae

Delta RaeAbout a year ago I was first introduced to the amazing sound of Delta Rae. I wasn’t sure what I was about to hear but was instantly intrigued as they had so many band members I wasn’t sure they were going to fit on stage. The music started playing, and their rich four-part guy and girl harmonies filled the venue and I was hooked! I can’t quite describe their sound – they are country, folk, rock, blues, and soul. This six person group is composed of three siblings, Ian, Eric, and Brittany from Durham, North Carolina. Along the way their friend and talented singer Elizabeth joined them, along with drummer Mike McKee and bassist Grant Emerson.

Their first album, “Carry the Fire” was recently released. The band is on tour and if possible I greatly encourage you to see them live. The a capella song “Bottom of the River” is just incredible live!

Delta Rae is also a finalist Rolling Stone’s “Women Who Rock” Contest. The winner will receive a flip-cover of Rolling Stone’s Women In Rock issue. For more info on the contest and to vote for Delta Rae click here.
