Funtastical Friday: The Kid Who Went Down Fighting & Didn’t Really Lose

At 17 years old, Zach Sobiech was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that takes the lives of a large percentage of its childhood victims. Unfortunately Zach’s prognosis was that he had only a few months to live. He turned to music to say goodbye to his loved ones with the song “Clouds.”

Even in the face of death, Zach inspires those around him. Zach turned 18 years old this week and “continues his fight against cancer with a smile that can change the world!” (soulpancake)

Happy Birthday Zach! You are my inspiration!

As a warning you will need a big box of tissues for the video below. It is an amazing piece and I encourage you to watch all 20 minutes. My favorite part is the end…also the part that just lead to extreme waterworks. Thank you Zach for sharing your story, sharing your perspective, sharing your energy.

Here is the complete celebrity music video created for Zach.

It’s really simple – try and make people happy.
As long as you learn that, you will make the world a better place.
- Zach Sobiech

Zach’s song, ‘Clouds’ is available on iTunes and the proceeds benefit the Zach Sobiech Research Fund of Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Funtastical Friday: Say YES to Love

This video might be the king of “mushy,” but it also made me laugh and cry at the same time. It is something that we all know happens, the circle of life, but for some reason when seen from this perspective it really makes you think. It makes you think how one word, the word “YES,” can change the world.

Thank you Isaac and Amy for sharing your story.

What will you say YES to today?

Happy Friday!

Funtastical Friday: Veterans Inspiring Message to Boston Survivors

“We Stand WIth You” was produced by Shoulder 2 Shoulder, a Virginia-based Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business, with their friends from the Wounded Warrior Community in response to the Boston Marathon Bombings. Thank you S2S and the Wounded Warriors for sharing this inspiring perspective. I will let the video speak for itself.

To Brandeis, To Boston, with Love

Cali loves BostonAs I mentioned in yesterday’s post, my brother’s went to Brandeis University for college, which is just outside of Boston in Waltham. After spending four amazing years there, and falling in love with their University, like many of us do, they graduated last May and moved to California. They moved for their careers and I know if the same opportunities California could offer them were in Boston, they would be in Boston today.

Waltham is the neighboring town to Watertown, where much of last night’s and today’s manhunt is taking place. The university, like the rest of Boston is in lockdown. My brothers spent all of last night on the phone with friends who still attend Brandeis, friends who really have become like family to them. Well in a time of chaos, confusion, sadness and disbelief, my brother’s turn to the one thing that still makes sense to them, the one thing that still makes sense to pretty much the entire the Brandeis student body – music.

Boston and the greater Boston area you are in our thoughts today. You are an incredible city. Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay amazing.

This song is for Brandeis. This song is for Boston.

Funtastical Friday: It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s My Dog!

Della, Nirena, SikarraMy family has had Portuguese Water Dogs since I was a little girl. My mother is close friends with the breeder and throughout the years we have welcomed many Portuguese Water Dogs into our home whether it be for babysitting, training or just for fun. They are amazing pets, full of so much love and energy. O the energy! You would swear that our current family dog Sikarra is a puppy when really she is 10! She also happens to be Bo Obama’s doppelganger or should I say Bo is hers.

Casori, Sikarra, NirenaA few weeks ago the adorable, pig-nosed Nirena entered our home. Nirena is extremely skiddish, and therefore needs help with socialization. Since my mom’s house is a revolving door of friends, family and pets, it made perfect sense for her to foster Nirena to help her overcome those issues. I was home at my moms recently and got to meet this adorable Nirena, who took to me and my dog, Casori quite nicely. Casori had similar issues to Nirena when I first got her, and they currently exhibit a similar demeanor so they got along well.

Anyways, Nirena is a sneaky little thing. Unlike most dogs that want to be in the room that people are in, Nirena is always on a different floor entirely. She is also so light on her feet, you never hear her coming. We therefore decided to gate the dogs off in the kitchen to keep them together, but somehow Nirena kept getting out. We couldn’t figure out how she was doing it, so we put together this little test…

Introducing the flying dog –  Nirena!

Funtastical Friday: Why I want to live in Idaho

I’ve been waiting allllllll week for Funtastical Friday! Ahhhh I’m so excited it is here! This past weekend I came across what may very well be the coolest high school in the U.S. and yes it is in Idaho. Now this may sound bad but all I knew about Idaho is that they grow some killer potatoes. But thanks to the Highland Trouveres, the student choir at Idaho’s Highland Senior High School, everyone knows Idaho is wayyyy more than potatoes!

Highland TrouveresIn this video the Highland Trouveres dance and lip-sing to an incredible 8 minute mashup of pop hits in ONE TAKE. That’s right, they filmed the entire thing in one take!  It took a month of planning, mostly figuring out how the camera would go through the school and where the students would be at what times. If you watch the video carefully you can see students setting up for the next “scene” in the background of some takes. It’s really cool to see how it unfolds. Man I wish I went to this high school! But then again, I guess when I was in high school the whole a capella, dance craze wasn’t happening. We were too busy listening to the Spice Girls and drooling over Justin Timberlake. O wait, we still do that last one.

The video was directed and filmed by Highland seniors Ben Fisher and Bryton Nield. The choir also thanks their their choir teacher Bret Scherer who made the video possible. The music is from Pop Danthology.

Have you ever participated in a flash mob, dance routine or a capella sing-along? What are your high school favorite moments? Share below.

Happy Friday!

Funtastical Friday: Wedding Fails or Should I Say Falls

One of my closest friend’s wedding is this weekend and I’m so so excited for her special day! I can’t wait to have a day just to celebrate her and her fiance, and of course hit up the dance floor! We might have to do some after-party karaoke too!

I was YouTubing wedding videos, and these two video’s just came to my attention and made me go out loud “Oh My God!”

What was the most unexpected thing that happened at a wedding you’ve attended?

Funtastical Friday: Karaoke History in the Making

A random girl in a mall in SE Asia walked up to a karaoke machine in a mall and blew everyone away. It’s only a matter of time before we find out more about this girl. This video might just be history in the making. Wow, o wow!

Funtastical Friday: If Animals Ate Fast Food

This beautiful animation by ROLLIN’ WILD is just so cute that I kinda want all the animals. Two thumbs up to the creators! According to ROLLIN’ WILD’s Facebook page, “ROLLIN’ WILD is a transmedia project brought to life by Flying Stone GbR, and was produced as part of the subject area Animation at the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg.”

Which animal is your favorite?

Funtastical Friday: An Update on Kid President

A few weeks ago we all fell in love with Kid President. His inspirational video not only caught our attention, but caught the attention of the man himself, President Obama.

If that’s not awesome enough, Kid President also made some new friends… here’s a hint, they were featured in our guest blog post by Gina from Popcorn and Pandas. After Kid President proclaims his massive crush on them, together they wrote “A Love Song from Kid President.”
