I went solo to start my own company 2 1/2 months ago now. The first month I pretty much took a long siesta. I needed a break. I needed to press the reboot button. The next month unfortunately my grandparents were not doing well, so I focused pretty much all my time on them. I feel blessed that I left my job at the same time as they needed my help, and that I was able to be there for them. We’ve recently received additional help and I now have the availability to work on my business again.
Starting your own business definitely isn’t easy. I find it all too easy to get distracted and find a million, and one other things that I need to do. I’m also being very, very money conscious as the funds I am used to are not coming in. I’m back to a strict food and beverage budget. There unfortunately will be no new clothes this Spring/Summer season – any friends that want to give me their hand-me-downs or want to help get creative with what I do have, please c’mon over! It’s also pretty lonely as you talk to yourself all day. But I think I needed that because that gives me the push to go out and make some sales, ie talk to people – lol.
Now with all of that, I am developing my company, Social Media on Tap, day by day, and constantly have new ideas I want to pursue as extensions of the company. So with that said, I would greatly appreciate your help in answering some questions for me to help flush out some of my ideas. Thank you so, so much in advance for your help! I’m particularly looking for feedback from those of you that are between the ages of 21-45. Please submit your answers to one, some or all of the questions I’m about to throw at you in comments below.
How do you find things to do on weeknights and weekends? Do you use magazines, apps, Google, talk to friends? Are there things you want to do but do not want to do them yourself, and your friends or significant other are not interested or available to do it with you? Do you do it anyways alone or just end up putting it on your list of things to do? Whether you are single or married, do you wish you did more activities but do not always have someone to do them with? Do you want to extend your friend network closer to home? Or are you so busy that you barely have time for your current friends that the idea of making new ones is overwhelming? Do you belong to any clubs from sports teams to volunteer groups to Meetups? If you do what are your likes and dislikes? If you relocated to a new place, how did you go about meeting people?
I know there questions are broad and vague, but I need them to be that way to get true answers. I‘m adding a new bimonthly “business” update to the blog. This will include everything from updates, to lessons learned, to whats worked and what did not, to what comes out of these questions you answered. Thank you so much again for your help.
Happy Thursday!
It’s 6am, I’ve just woken up for the day and boy am I tired. This whole working for yourself thing, is not the easiest. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m excited about the new journey that I’ve chosen to embark on, but it is definitely going to take some getting used to. It’s going to take some really hard discipline to create a schedule and stick to it. It’s going to take even harder discipline to believe in myself and jump in head first, rather than letting daily distractions and other people’s “thoughts” get in my way.
I was instantly immersed in all things social and soon became a bit of a
